Welcome to Silver Gate
Yacht Club Junior Sailing II
Eligibility
The program is
open to all children of club members. Grandchildren of members and children of
non-members are also welcome.
SGYC
is an active sponsor of boating for people with special needs. Children with
special needs will be accepted, provided that they can reasonably be expected to
sail solo at least once with close supervision.
Cost
The costs for
the summer program are given on the “enrollment application for new and
returning Students” form which is in the “forms” link of this web site.
Clothing
Two
sets of clothes with each set consisting of a non-buttoning shirt such as a polo
or “T” shirt, shorts or jeans,
socks, light windbreaker, a change of underwear and rubber-soled shoes. A towel
is a must. Bathing suits are acceptable, but only in addition to the above.
Please, no sandals. Rubber-soled diving shoes are the best for this type of
sailing. All must be carried in a backpack or gym bag. Juniors are encouraged to
supply their own PFD (lifejacket).
Health and Safety
Each student
will be required to complete and return medical and liability forms. Each
student must pass a 50-yard swimming test and be able to tread water with a life
jacket on for 3 minutes.
Junior
Membership
All children of SGYC members
are automatically junior members of SGYC and are automatically eligible for
enrollment in the summer program, subject to completion of the Health and Safety
requirements.
Grandchildren,
other relatives of members and children of non-members are eligible to become
junior members of SGYC for one year, January to January, after having completed
a least one-week of a Junior Sailing Program Course and having been sponsored by
a Flag Member. Application for junior membership at SGYC is NOT a requirement of
the summer sailing program.
SGYC Year-Round Sailing Program
We are
interested in sponsoring interested and responsible junior sailors of all
ability levels for the SGYC sailing fleets without regard to the membership
status of their parents.
As
part of the junior membership program, children of non-members who become junior
members are expected to join the SGYC sailing fleets and compete in scheduled
events for their respective fleets. SGYC will sponsor Sabot, Laser and CFJ
fleets.
Upon
successful completion of a 2-week Summer Junior Sailing Program Course, junior
members are eligible to sail boats from the fleet used for the course they
completed. Children of adult members are not required to participate in SGYC
Junior Sailing Fleets, but are strongly encouraged to join a fleet of their
choice and participate in regular training.
